I spoke at the Marechal Ferdinand Foch Auditorium on the grounds of the Ecole Militaire in Paris for a conference before an audience of seven hundred on the evening of June 23, 2016.
In connection with the upcoming fifteenth anniversary of 9/11, I reviewed some of the historical and institutional factors which contributed to the Intelligence Community’s failure to prevent the attacks. I then briefly relived that morning for them through the eyes of Barry Mawn, the FBI’s Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office at the time. I concluded with some thoughts about the dramatic transformational changes that have occurred within the FBI in the wake of the disaster which are designed to meet the new terrorism challenges we face today.
